Do I need a formal referral from a physician?

Some insurance plans require formal referrals with insurer prior-authorization and some do not. Our medical providers will not know the details of your individual plan and so will be unable to clarify this for you. Often the specialty clinic will inform you when you try to schedule an appointment if you need a referral. You will need to contact your insurer, however, for absolute confirmation. Prior to your visit, you may also need to verify that this specialist is "in network" with your plan.

Please have the following information ready when you call to request a referral from our office:

- Name of specialist
- Phone number of specialist
- Appointment date and time

Then, call our main line at 703-938-5555 and press 4 to submit the above information. We will require 3 days to complete your referral process. Any referral request with less than 24 hours notice may incur an additional fee.
